چکیده

That is why the syntax of a natural language ~ not be described by the rules of the syntax of a formal language. And that is why a natural language cannot be parsed the same way as a formal language. To parse a natural language, it would be necessary to know its syntax, Thus, major difficulties in parsing a natural language are not algorithmic but linguistic. Here, I assume that natural language has a very high formal redundancy. In other words, morphosyntaclic clues are numerous enough to make deductions upon categories and relations in many converging ways. Research into French syntax then consists in d i scover ing these clues: morpho logy of words, a g r e e m e n t s , r e la t ive pos i t i ons of e l emen t s , segmentation in NPs, or in larger segments, typology of relations, structure of the relations net, formal and quantitative constraints upon this net.

Syntax-based speech recognition: how a syntactic parser can help a recognition system

This contribution is a report on an on-going research aiming at the development of a speech recognition system for French, combining a standard HMM recognition tool with a syntactic parser. Because of the very high number of homophones in French and because several agreement rules spread over an unbounded number of words, we designed our GB-based morphological and syntactic parser to output a c...

XLFG-an LFG parsing scheme for French

We present XLFG, a new parser for LFG developed by Lionel Clément (Clément 2000), (Clément 2001b). This parser is freely available for pedagogical as well as for research purpose. In this paper, we explain how the tool has been used to develop and evaluate a medium-size LFG for French. We also show how we have exploited the similarities between the LFG and the Tree Adjoining Grammar Frameworks ...

Studying impressive parameters on the performance of Persian probabilistic context free grammar parser

In linguistics, a tree bank is a parsed text corpus that annotates syntactic or semantic sentence structure. The exploitation of tree bank data has been important ever since the first large-scale tree bank, The Penn Treebank, was published. However, although originating in computational linguistics, the value of tree bank is becoming more widely appreciated in linguistics research as a whole. F...

An Investigation into Bilingual Dictionary Use: Do the Frequency of Use and Type of Dictionary Make a Difference in L2 Writing Performance?

Bilingual dictionary use in L2 writing test performance has recently been the subject of debate. Opinions differ according to how the trait is understood and whether the system favors the process-oriented or product-oriented views towards the assessment and writing skill. Given the need for more empirical support, this study is aimed at investigating the availability of bilingual dictionary use...
